VOTE/COPE

PWRE members have made significant contributions to VOTE-COPE each year, making the PWRE one of the highest contributing retiree chapters in Nassau County and the state. These contributions reflect the understanding that retirees must have influence in the legislative process. This is especially important as the current administration tries to destroy social security. If you are one of those who has not yet contributed to VOTE-COPE this year, please do so now. Send your check, made out to Vote-Cope, to Tessa Jordan, 1 Lynn Road, Port Washington, NY 11050.

You have been a member of NYSUT since the start of your teaching career; this continues into retirement, with the addition of joining your local chapter (i.e. PWRE). You do not pay into NYSUT as a retiree;  you do pay local chapter annual dues (which are paid the first year by your Association). You do NOT belong to NYSTRA, which is not a NYSUT organization. NYSTRA preceded the establishment of NYSUT retiree chapters, and continues to this day. There is an annual fee, which of course is your prerogative to pay should you wish to be a member, but we know of no additional benefit to you. We have requested in the past, and continue to request, that no information concerning our retirees be given inadvertently by our PWTA or administration office to said organization. From time to time we learn of members who have been paying NYSTRA fees in the erroneous belief that they are NYSUT-imposed. This is an effort, once again, to correct that impression.
